Holocaust Inversion: Stop Blaming Poles for German and Jewish Crimes
Author Piotr Gontarczyk is a historian with the IPN who continues refuting Holocaust-related falsehoods, as he does again here. In this review, I use DeepL to translate Polish-language excerpts, from Gontarczyk’s work, into English for quoting.
Holocaust Inversion is a Holocaustspeak term used by Jews whenever Israel is compared with Nazi Germany. I take this Jewish term and co-opt it for use whenever Poles are falsely blamed for Nazi German crimes or for Jewish crimes, as is addressed here.
HOLOCAUST INVERSION: BLAMING POLISH BLUE POLICE FOR THE CRIMES OF THE JEWISH GHETTO POLICE
Jan Grabowski’s mendacity never ceases to amaze. Gontarczyk comments, “The first are the Germans: the military police, local civil authorities, and even individual criminal officers. It is their crimes against Jews that are ‘transferred’ to Polish officers. Another beneficiary of the systematic falsification of the image of the occupation in the publications of the “new Polish school of the Holocaust” is the Jewish Order Police, in particular its actions against its compatriots. Among the worst and most dramatic in terms of their consequences was the search for and handing over to the Germans (sometimes after robbing them first) of Jews hiding in various hiding places and bunkers after the main wave of deportations. The victims of these actions were usually immediately murdered by the Germans. Subsequent publications by this school mention such cases in Tarnow, Dabrowa Tarnowska (Jan Grabowski’s book JUDENJAGD) and Bochnia (in Dalej jest Noc [THE NIGHT CONTINUES]). An interesting fact is that in all these cases, which claimed hundreds of Jewish victims, the Jewish police who carried out these actions were replaced by ‘navy-blue’ policemen.” (p. 353). What a farce!
HOLOCAUST INVERSION. “POLISH COMPLICITY IN THE HOLOCAUST” CONFUSES ORDER-FULFILLERS WITH COLLABORATORS
Grabowski misrepresents Poles as voluntary Jew-killers when they were anything but. Gontarczyk clarifies the actions of the Polish firefighters, “Bronislaw Przegalinski’s testimony is typical and unambiguous in its meaning – firefighters had to carry out German orders and did not voluntarily “participate” in anti-Jewish actions.” (p. 351)
Now consider the much-maligned Polish Blue Police. Gontarczyk comments, “Hence, there were probably cases where the same policemen had to participate (usually under German orders) in the convoying or searching for Jews during the day, and after their shift (by hiding them or, for example, forging documents) saved their lives.” (p. 355. Emphasis added).
Contrary to the usual Judeocentric perspective-free demonization of the Polish Blue Police, Gontarczyk points out, “Many policemen behaved decently, as evidenced by numerous Polish and Jewish testimonies…criminal acts are most visible, while decent behavior is not conspicuous.” (p. 355).
HOLOCAUST INVERSION: JAN GRABOWSKI IS AN INVETERATE LIAR: MORE EXAMPLES
Grabowski cites the Jew Josek Kopyto on the Poles supposedly cutting off the beards of Jews, without indicating the page of the testimony. It turns out that Kopytko does mention an elderly Jew getting his beard cut off–but by the Germans in 1939, not the Poles. And nowhere does Kopytko mention the Poles cutting off Jews’ beards. (p. 346).
Now consider the betrayal of Emmanuel Ringleblum’s bunker. Grabowski charges the Polish Criminal Police with forming a network to find the bunker, but presents not a shred of evidence to support any such accusation. (p. 350).
In blaming Poles for acts against the Jews of Miechow, Grabowski conveniently ignores a large Jewish source that fingers the Germans: “The original testimony of Samuel Salzberg contains half a page of typescript in which the words “schutzpolizei” (German police), “erschossen” (shot), and the numbers and names of Jews shot by the Germans appear at least a dozen times (in total). This information and the names were omitted from the original text by Dariusz Libionka, who, when using this source, did not once mention the German Schutzpolizei described by Salzberg, nor the main theme of this testimony, which was the deportation and shooting (a number of specific names of victims omitted from this text are mentioned) of Jews.” (p. 352).
Gontarczyk once again exposes the lies about the Polish firefighters, “In the book Na posterunku (ON DUTY) the Germans were no longer in the ‘intermediate version’ (by Dariusz Libionka), now (by Jan Grabowski) firefighters – Poles – were added to its content. This is a typical case for Jan Grabowski’s texts – fictional footnotes added to the effects of a clear tendency to confabulate.” (p. 352). Elsewhere, it gets even better: “Jan Grabowski replaced the firefighters who extinguished the ghetto with those who set it on fire. The point here is that in his version of the quote, Jan Grabowski replaced the firefighters who extinguished the ghetto with those who set it on fire.” (p. 346). If it serves Jewish propaganda purposes, why not?

False postwar accusations about “Polish collaboration” are not limited to outright Communist manipulations of the August Trials. Gontarczyk explains, “However, it is necessary to separate true and reliable accounts from the effects of trauma on Jewish witnesses, and to eliminate from the historical view the vengeful denunciations of criminal and Communist elements, which until 1945 were kept in check by the same people who had been police officers before the war.” (p. 355). So much for the likes of Andrew Kornbluth.
THE POLISH CENTER FOR HOLOCAUST RESEARCH REPEATEDLY PROMOTES FALSEHOODS
Piotr Gontarczyk exposes a definite pattern in the so-called “new school” of Polish Holocaust scholarship, “The author (like other adepts of the aforementioned ‘school’) uses numerous false testimonies, baseless accusations, and even anonymous, false reports, and present the information provided as facts… (p. 345).
Holocaust inversion again! Gontarczyk concludes, “In practice, the activities of the ‘school’ focus precisely on the negative attitudes of Poles, which are often described without historical context and, above all, with the large-scale use of a wide range of distortions of historical sources, such as changing the content of quotations, providing false information or quoting from unreliable sources, or simply ‘rewriting’ German crimes to the detriment of Poles, both individually and collectively. These activities are aimed at placing as much blame as possible on Poles for their alleged complicity in the Holocaust. Due to the scale of abuse involved in these actions, the author of this text considers them to be contrary to the basic principles of scholarly methodology and deliberately uses the word ‘school’ in quotation marks.” (p. 344. Emphasis added).
The facts are clear: If the Polish Center for Holocaust Research is not exactly a Jewish 5th column in Poland, then it is not for lack of trying.
