T
he Holocaust in the Twenty-First Century: Contesting/Contested Memories, edited by David M. Seymour and Mercedes Camimo. 2017. Routledge, New York and London
I focus on the USHMM: A few issues dealing with the persistence of Holocaust supremacism and its manifestation in the form of the USHMM and its privileged position in Washington. This includes the ongoing marginalization of goyish genocides.
USHMM UNPARALLELED: WHY IS THE USHMM IN THE U. S. CAPITAL? ANSWER: HOLOCAUST SELF-IMPORTANCE
Nicci Shall writes, “There was extensive debate concerning the location of the museum. Some were in favor of a New York location…However, as the capital of the United States, Washington, DC, was chosen to reinforce the status of a national museum, thereby illustrating how important the Holocaust had become…Others still argued that the Holocaust was being politicized and used to influence state policy on Israel.” (p. 93. Italics added). Exactly right.

USHMM UNPARALLELED: THE USHMM, PREDICTABLY, SLIGHTS ALL NON-JEWISH VICTIMS
Whatever nominal input there was from non-Jewish voices regarding the nature of USHMM exhibits, these were quickly silenced and brushed aside. Nicci Shall writes, “Nevertheless, within this context, it was hard for John Pawlikowski and Set Momjian (representing the Polish and Armenian communities, respectively) to gain significant recognition for their ideas. Thus Pawlikowski’s insistence that the ‘historical viewpoint needs to be seen from non-Jewish historians’ viewpoint was overruled…” (p. 100).
For more on how the USHMM actively pushes Holocaust supremacy, see:
The cursory lumping together of all the non-Jewish victims, done for the sake of the otherwise Jewish monopoly, also was divisive. Nicci Shall notes that “The Romani resented being represented alongside Jehovah’s Witnesses and homosexuals within the exhibition.” (p. 100). The Jews get the loaf of bread, and all the non-Jewish victim groups wrestle over a few crumbs.
USHMM UNPARALLELED. VICTIM POLITICS, GRIEVANCE POLITICS, AND HOLOCAUST SUPREMACISM
Nicci Shall frankly comments, “More broadly, within America, embracing an identity based on victimhood was becoming widespread, thus enhancing the status of particular groups. Through the claim that it is morally reprehensible to compare anything to the Holocaust, Jews were able to maintain the position of eternal victims thereby gaining an ‘acknowledgment of superior victimization from another contender.’ Thus, viewing the Holocaust as unique can be seen as an expression of identity politics whereby competing minorities claim to have suffered most.” (p. 93).
SOME PUSHBACK AGAINST HOLOCAUST SUPREMACISM
David M. Seymour writes, “At the core of these debates is the idea that Holocaust Memorial Day’s seemingly singular focus on Nazi crimes against Jews not only serves to ‘privilege’ its Jewish victims at the expense of others but also serves particularist Jewish interests, most notable, Jewish nationalism or ‘Zionism’”. (p. 15). Yes. It is plain as daylight.
POLISH POLITICIANS CARRY THE WATER FOR THE JEWS
Joanna Beata Michlic tells this ironic truth, “Current political elites have realized that endorsing and praising the lost multiethnic past and commemorating the Holocaust are the key means of gaining respectability and visible international status in the West, and they are effective and convincing ways of showing that the country today is free of its past anti-Semitic and xenophobic traditions [!] and ready to forge a new chapter in the history of ties with Israel, the Jewish Diaspora and Jews at home.” (p. 137).
Exactly right. It is about serving Jewish interests, and not Polish interests. It is all about pleasing the Jews. Is it any wonder that some Poles believe that Jews are the real rulers of Poland?
